Shiv Khera to speak on governance……..

Drawing clues and inputs from its seminar on ‘Challenges of higher education’ last year at Assocham House, Deshbandhu College (E), University of Delhi, has decided to create greater awareness amongst  youth on relevance of ethical practices and core values in good governance. In association with India International Center, the college is organizing a two-day national seminar on ‘Ethical dimensions of Governance’ 0n 15-16 February, 2010.

Considering the incessant will of the college in this regard, world fame ethicist, Shiv Khera has agreed to speak on this subject as a star speaker. Apart from about 250 delegates, youth leader and Union Minister, Ajay Maken and several other dignitaries like V.P.Agarwal ( Chairman, Airport Authority of India), Ms. Kanan Dhruv (Founder Managing Director, Research Foundation in Governance), Amarjeet Chopra (Vice-President, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India), D.P.Agarwal (Chairman, UPSC), Prof. Sunita Singh Sengupta (FMS, University of Delhi), Uday Sahay,IPS (Adl.DG, Communications, Commonwealth Games) and Prashant Bhushan (Eminent lawyer, Supreme Court of India) would be taking part at the seminar. Shri Oscar Fernandes, MP (Former Union Minister) would be the Chief Guest of Valedictory session.

College Principal, Dr. S.P.Aggarwal attaching high significance to such effort, considers academic community’s bounden duty to promote the cause of ethics and values amongst youth in general and in governance of organizations in particular. The effort is also in tune with the high priority attached to good governance by our Hon’ble Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, He adds.

        Relevance of ethical action in governance- The topic would examine ethical action explained as a social, organizational, national or personal activity into which an individual is ready to function entirely on the spirit of service and dedication.

        Practical significance of ethical theories propounded by C.D.Brood, Aristotle and Bentham-Analyze theories which give the good priority over the right.

        Practical significance of theories propounded by Immanuel Kant, W.D.ross, and Rawls. Analyze such theories that argue for the priority of the right over the good or the independence of the right form the good.

11.45 – 1.45 PM Fourth technical session

        Impact of ethics on the bottom line- The theme would analyze practical impact of ethics on the bottom line. Corporate ethics and the long-term corporate interest- Public image is the key to survival. Examine the long-term interest of business.  

2.30 – 4.00 PM VALEDICTORY SESSION

A seminar(Also known as Conference) is a lecture or presentation delivered to an audience on a particular topic or set of topics that are educational in nature. It is usually held for groups of 10-50 individuals. A seminar is frequently held at a college or University meeting space or within an office conference room .Seminar is very much needed these corporate life and management scenario. Deshbandhu College Evening Feels the need of arrangements of seminars on various topics for the all round developments of the students.

Since the college is an affiliated Educational Institution of the University of Delhi,we have the encouragements from the scholars of various Subjects i.e literature, science, social sciences ,managements etc. The College authority fee it necessary to organize seminars on various topics and invite Scholars of concerned subjects taking in view of the students benefit. Through various seminars ,The College Feels to improve the wholesome knowledge of the students and the staff as well.

Deshbandu College Evening arranges a number of seminars through out the session on Interesting topics inviting notable scholars.

Recently, one such National seminar was organized by the college in collaboration with 'ASSOCHAM'. India is facing unprecedented challenges in the light of the changing job scenario, declining ethical standards ,spreading Terrorism and rising commercialization of Education. The Challenge is posing threat to humanity as well as the higher education. to discuss this issue along with corporate sector ASSOCHAM and banking institution Punjab National Bank, the seminar intended to focus on remedial measures and formulate perspectives for the future plans.

The title of the seminar 'Changing face of higher education in India' referred to shifting paradigms in the understanding of emerging trends in the contemporary academic, administrative ,political and social arenas

Dr.S.P.Aggarwal, Principal of the college, welcomed the respected dignitaries to the seminar. Prof.S.K.Vij, Dean of student welfare, Delhi University inaugurated the seminar by lighted up the Lamp. Dr.Sanjay Shegal gave key-note address. Prof.Shyam Menon highlighted a vital dimension of whether education system should care to the changing demands of market or the needs of the society. Shri Sanjiv Bhamre, Harsh Mishra,Vijay G. Pande ,Prof Sushma Yadav,Ravinder Goyal were amongst the speakers.

The College has been planning more and more seminars during 2009-10 session. The Principal has asked the students and staff of the college to take participation more in good numbers.
